Quick Overview

Beginner's Guide To Silk Shading

This beautiful and inspiring guide gives full instructions using step-by-step photographs on the techniques and stitches needed for silk shading. There are four exquisite projects to create. You can learn how to transfer a design, prepare the fabric, frame up and then work silk shading. You are now ready to create four exquisite designs, featuring climbing leaves, tulips, a butterfly and dog roses. Both beginners and experienced embroiderers will be inspired by this beautiful guide to silk shading.

Review

The book starts with a brief history of the technique and how it was eventually used with cotton and wool thread in latter times. As with all of Search Press' books, the colour photographs used to illustrate the steps taken for the various techniques are clear and easy to understand as none of the work is hidden or confusing at any point. I was pleased to see how it progressed from what tools you need, practice sections, to building up and progressing to what look like harder pieces but, if you work through the book are easily achievable. What you do need is patience but the results are definately rewarding and I can see how lovely pieces of work reflecting nature can be created. --- Pentacle, Samhain, Winter 2007, Issue 23
