There is a mixture of video lessons, demonstrations and exercises, picture galleries to inspire and projects for you to complete. Here’s what the course looks like:

  1. Part 1: Dye your own yarns

    Hand dyeing yarn Learn how to dye your own yarn by hand, in your own studio or kitchen, without the need for costly industrial machinery. You’ll discover two techniques - space dyeing and indigo dyeing - which will enable you to create your own personalised colours. There’s plenty of insider tips and tricks, as well as how to deal with common problems you might encounter. Plus, discover how to spin your own yarn.

  2. Part 2: Making jewelry from yarn

    Discover how to create necklaces and brooches from yarn, and then be inspired to create your own originally-designed pieces of jewelry. Anna offers an insight into her own design process, so you can learn how to create your own collection of textile pieces.

  3. Part 3: How to spindle spin

    Learn about the different yarns that can be used to spindle spin, and how to create your own yarn using a traditional hand spindle. Helen will also introduce you to the history of the craft.

About the Author Awarded a licentiateship with merit by the Society of Designer Craftsmen, Helen can safely be described as a master of her craft. Following her first exhibition at the Mall Gallery in London, she has showed her work in many galleries across the UK over the last decade. She was chosen for the exhibition that marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, alongside notable makers such as Bobbie Cox, Peter Collingwood and Sue Hiley Harris. Helen knits almost solely the yarns she have spun, enjoying creating new designs and using the wide variety of stitch patterns that are available – she especially enjoy working with a variety of colours.
